The overview

Genentech/Roche was launching a Phase 3 clinical trial to evaluate fenebrutinib in people with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) and primary progressive MS (PPMS). They were running clinical studies for each of the new pharmeceuticals: FENhance, FENtrepid and FENopta, applicable to different forms of the disease state. We were tasked with developing the brand identities for both studies as well as the overall brand identity for fenebrutinib, and provide design deliverables to healthcare providers and patients in order to recruit patients for these studies.

The challenge

How do you reach a select group of patients and motivate them to join a clinical trial?

The process

Six Degrees conducted audience-based research to determine the attributes to best represent the FEN brand. Based on this quantitative and qualitative data, I worked with the ECD to develop a wide variety of logo options to be used as a visual anchor for building the campaign visuals. We received feedback from internal business teams as well as client stakeholders, and continued narrowing down the selections over several rounds, before settling on the final family of logos. Here is the final round of logo options.‍

The solution

Create a brand that invokes hope, and craft the UI/UX of the patient-centered website with easy-to-read fonts and sizes. The user interface needs to be easily navigated by users of an older demographic, as well as those who may be challenged with visual difficulties.

Here is the main parent brand, Fenebrutinib, with the three sub-brand logos. The star motif represents the patient's freedom of movement, which is something that these new drugs aim to help.

From the main logo, I developed a full set of brand guidelines for each sub-brand, indicating correct logo usage, brand colors, typography, etc.

Along with the brand guidelines, I designed all the pieces needed for this fullscale campaign. Here are some pieces from the FENtrepid campaign, including posters, patient brochures and one-sheets, appointment reminder cards, patient screening forms for healthcare providers, packaging for the campaign materials as they are sent out to clinics and doctor's offices, and websites.
